I ♥ GREEN!! :: reuse, reduce, recycle...

We do things everyday that negatively effect the environment with or without knowing it. Here is a list of a few simple things you can do to be a little more GREEN:

1. Use a Pur or Britta water filter instead of buying plastic water bottles over and over. 8 out of 10 plastic water bottles don't make it to the recycle bin and end up in a landfill where they sit for years, if not forever... they are not bio-degradable! If you must buy water bottles, at least reuse them a few times and then please recycle them. And next time you see that little old man digging thru your trash for cans and bottles, thank him for being GREEN!

2. Recycle more than just newspaper, bottles, and cans. Newspaper, aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic soda bottles, pizza boxes, steel cans, EMPTY aerosol bottles, wire hangers, computer paper—white or colored, catalogs, magazines, junk mail, telephone books, cereal boxes, gift boxes, wrapping paper, and FLATTENED cardboard boxes can all go in the recycle bin!... just make sure you rinse out food containers before recycling.

3. BYOB... bring your own grocery bags. Buy a few of those reusable grocery bags and keep them in the trunk/back of your car so you're ready to go when it's shopping time.

If you can't give up your beloved bags, keep in mind 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year. Millions of those bags don't make it to the landfills, they get stuck in trees or they stick to your windshield when you're driving instead. The ones that do make it to the landfill take months to hundreds of years to breakdown and as they decompose, tiny toxic particles seep into soils, lakes, rivers, and the oceans.

Unfortunately, these bags cannot go into a normal recycle bin because they are made from petroleum products. They are reusable though! Reuse them to take your lunch to work or to pick up after your dog. Or better yet, take all your unused bags (not the ones w/ Fido's business in them) to the grocery store and recycle them there. Most stores have a bin specifically for recycling these pesky bags.
...
Ok, that's all I have for now but stay tuned...
